Devi starts obsessing about Aneesa and Ben flirting. As she tells Dr. Ryan,
She did a crazy Beyonce hair flip and didn’t even shower him with dandruff!
In a twist on the teen coming out storyline, Fabiola’s mom is being a little too much of an ally for comfort. Aneesa speaks my language when she says her mom covered her eyes during The Lady and the Tramp kiss so she wouldn’t get any ideas. We get a hint of coming storyline when Devi internally rages that Aneesa isn’t eating her brownie the messy way Devi is….
I almost forgot about the whole “moving to India storyline” but her PE teacher hasn’t. Devi’s been skipping PE because she thought she was moving (and claims her Indian high school doesn’t have PE lol) and now has an F! To make up for it, she has to participate in the cross country team’s 24 hour relay.
I’ve been a fan of any 24 hour themed event on television since the dance marathon episode of Gilmore Girls.
In the funniest/grossest part of this storyline, there’s a hook up tent at the relay. People can sign up for slots. Trent says it’s like the movie The Apartment. I love picturing Trent watching black and white movies in his free time.
And horror! Ben has signed up for a slot. Devi tries to run off her rage and collapses after an 11 minute mile. I hated running the mile in high school but did it just for the grade like Devi.
I have mixed feelings about the actor playing Paxton being thirty years old IRL. Not complaining about the hotness, but when he’s shirtless it’s super obvious he is not a high schooler.
In another sign of Fab’s mom’s supportiveness, she’s made Team Jodie Fasters t-shirts. I wonder if teens today would get that reference.
Worried about Ben and Aneesa together, Devi cuts through the woods to spy and ends up losing her phone and therefore her dad’s voicemails. Which were the only thing keeping her together. When a girl on the cross country team mistakes her for Aneesa and asks if she wants to join the team, Devi’s rage intensifies. I wrote down her speech about Aneesa to make sure I understood exactly how a rumor about Aneesa started:
I’m not Aneesa! I don’t run fast, I’m not cool, and I don’t eat one crumb of brownie because I’m straight up anorexic!
Resident mean girls Shira and Zoe overhear and ask Devi if Aneesa is really anorexic. Devi responds:
Probably! I’ve never seen her eat a damn thing!
After acknowledging they shouldn’t tell anyone because that info is private, Shira and Zoe share a look presumably meaning they’re going to share the rumor with anyone who will listen.
The next morning Aneesa is in tears. She admits the rumor is true, she is anorexic and it’s the reason she switched schools. Oh no. The next day, Aneesa isn’t at school and then Devi called to principals office.
